AIDS Walk Long Beach

Project: Jordan was created as an HIV and STD outreach prevention program for young Black men as a response to Jordan Barber who died of AIDS. Jordan was born with HIV and stopped taking his medication at age 18, shortly after being released from DCFS (Dept. of Child and Family Services). For six years Jordan also did not acknowledge or admit to anyone that he had HIV. This denial resulted in the infection of at least 6 people. Three young women who each became pregnant and three men, likely as a "drug" exchange behavior.

Project: Jordan is a health outreach initiative as desired by his brother Rico and Jordan's former case worker, "Auntie" Julee, as a response to the destruction Jordan left behind in his community. This program will outreach to young Black men through barbershops initially with the help of the barbers to bring focus to their community that is affected disproportionately compared to other communities. Blacks represent 14% of the populations but account for 65% of all new HIV infections. It is the 4th leading cause of death in the Black community.

This video shows interview clips of Jordan who volunteered for a community project helping an HIV-client, but was hauntingly foretelling of his future. Interviews of Julee and his brother, Rico, tell the sad story of Jordan's destruction to himself, others and his community. It is their wish that Project: Jordan becomes the program that rights the wrong created by Jordan and eventually changes a community by facing it's phobias about HIV that is literally, "killing" their community.
