  2. Often, when a marine accident occurs, the lack of experience to solve this type of problem leads to situations of social chaos and alarm that can only be solved efficiently by leaving the resolution of the contingency in the hands of experts. Arcopol Platform aims to protect the coast from maritime pollution by connecting expertise along the Atlantic area and developing strategies to respond quickly and effectively to Hazardous and Noxious Substances (HNS) spills. The coordinated work of trained stakeholders improves protocols and ensures a more efficient response to emergencies. There is no doubt that training exercises are the key to have better protocols and to improve the skills of the different participants involved in the response.

  3. Maritime transport of chemicals is, unfortunately, not without danger. These dangers can be derived from the spill of dangerous substances, with behaviors sometimes unknown at sea. Often, when there is a maritime accident, the lack of experience to solve this type of problem leads to situations of social chaos and alarms that can be solved efficiently leaving the resolution of the contingency in the hands of experts. The MARINER project aims to protect the coasts of the Atlantic coastline from maritime pollution by training experts and transferring technology and strategies to end users. With the information available today, it is now possible to adopt fast and effective response plans for Hazardous and Noxious Substances (HNS). The coordinated work of the trained stakeholders improves protocols and ensures the most efficient response to emergencies. There is no doubt that training exercises are the key to improving protocols and improving the skills of the different participants involved in the response.
With this video we want to highlight the importance of trusting the wisdom of experts.

  4. It is doubtless that the increase of the international maritime traffic favored the economic development to global level. However, this increase in the flow of merchandise for the seas of the world also is meaning an increase in the risk that accidental spillages of noxious and dangerous substances take place for the environment. On another side, our society also perceives every time more adequate to preserve specific sea ecosystems for the advantages that takes with themselves. The advantages of the well preserved sea ecosystems are many. However, our society is still divided up into the conflict derived from that duality of preferences: economic development versus environmental conservation.
In the project Arcopol we do not intend to position the audience in favor of any of these vital alternatives. We only intend to put the problem on the table, bringing a feasible intermediate solution: the development of contingency plans on marine protected areas which allow to minimize as much as possible any problem derived from a possible spillage.

  5. What if there was a oil spill in coastal ecosystems in next to you? This was a simulation that took place last November in the estuary of Vigo, a densely populated area in northwest Spain. Various groups of experts and regional, national and European institutions work to meet this type of crisis. This video aims to show the viewer how a training exercise is organized in the struggle against these accidental spills.

ARCOPOLplus is a project funded by the Atlantic Area Transnational Programme which aims to strengthen the capacity of prevention and response in the Atlantic regions to coastal spill episodes of accidental pollution by oil or hazardous and noxious (HNS) substances through transfer technology, training and innovation.
One of the tasks of this project is that of generating videos that help to bring the methodologies used in the fight against coastal pollution. Material that has been generated in this project are presented in this channel. To see english subtitles press CC
