A Room for London

This video documents Alain de Botton, David Kohn and Fiona Banner discussing how they came to create the one-bedroom installation A Room for London, which will be sat atop Queen Elizabeth Hall throughout 2012.

During 2012, Artangel invited 38 writers, musicians and artists from across the globe to compose, perform or imagine new work in A Room for London: a one-bedroom Heart of Darkness-influenced installation perched on a roof high above the River Thames.

High up on the roof of Queen Elizabeth Hall, a riverboat appears to have come to rest... A Room for London is a one-bedroom installation with a design based on the Roi des Belges, the riverboat on which Joseph Conrad travelled up the Congo in 1890, before writing Heart of Darkness. During the year over 30 performances and artworks are being created here and then shared in the digital space.
