Through retrofitting existing infrastructures, Hybrid2 proves an innovative bike hire scheme reflecting to the needs of cities in the near future. Pedalling from point A to B, users receive credits in city travel card, which can be used for other public transportation means, based on the offsetting the energy they generate to feed Hybrid Electric Buses.
To achieve this system, a semi-regenerative braking technology for bicycles with low cost is developed to pick up lost energy in bike trips; the boundary between the unit for energy the unit for money is blurred; folding handlebars which works as a bridge between bikes and grids, and H stands which play the role as docking points and prevent people to occupy public space with their private bikes are invented. These new objects are switches of this new system supplemented with Mobile Information Enhancement System.
