Bikes 4 Life:
Bikes 4 Life is an Australian not-for-profit organisation, operated entirely by
volunteers in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. We work towards reducing
poverty and social injustice in Australia and overseas; by providing those in
need, access to sustainable transport, with the simple gift of a bicycle.
The bicycles we distribute through our programs are recycled and restored by
donors and volunteers throughout Australia. We take bicycles that would often
become landfill and turn them into a usable transport source, which are then
distributed to remote and impoverished communities in Australia and around
the world.
Bikes 4 Life operates in Australia; assisting refugees, disadvantaged /disengaged
youth, and neglected Indigenous communities in remote regions of Australia.
Bikes 4 Life also operates international programs; currently in Papua New
Guinea, Uganda and Cambodia. in the near future we are extending our areas
of operation to Pakistan, Nauru and East Timor.
For many, the simple gift of a bicycle can change a live, even save a life – and
we have seen this first hand. Since our inception in 2010 we have completed 4
major international projects and 4 Indigenous projects, distributing thousands
of bikes to children, women and communities, which have positively impacted
the lives of tens of thousands of people.
In remote communities a bicycle is not only a means of transport to places
of employment and education but can provide many with access to remote
sources of food, water, medicine and shelter.
One bicycle can support social rehabilitation and economic change and it is
our mission is to collect, restore and provide bicycles to some of the most
marginalised and impoverished communities in Australia and around the world.
Bikes 4 Life is a friend of the environment through it’s bicycle recycling program,
and in the promotion and encouragement of sustainable and healthy living.
