Barbara Guest (1920-2006) was a member of the New York School of Poets noted for her visual, musical poetry. She was a poet, novelist and biographer; in the latter case, her five-year research into Imagist poet Hilda Doolittle, which coalesced into Herself Defined: The Poet H.D. and Her World, helped inspire her own image- and language-inspired poems. Awards include the Robert Frost Medal for Distinguished Lifetime Achievement from the Poetry Society of America.

In 2002, Sophie Constantinou and Margaret Weir interviewed Guest and recorded her recollections of and lyrical waxing about H.D. and life in the Hamptons. These moments were captured as part a series of short films catalyzed by Elmslie. His vision was to illustrate the artistic spirit of and collaborations among American writers, poets and artists from the late 50s to today.
