Radiating a quality that inspired Miro for his Barcelona Series, the capital of Catalonia is at the heart of the video series of KaZoltan and Janos Szabo. In their turn, they are letting themselves be transported by its energy while seeking to reconstruct its urbanity. Could Barcelona be a place which evokes and awakens within the artists feelings and emotions that they then reveal to us? Or, from another angle, does the city deliver onto the artists a myriad of potential material elements and ideas that can be appropriated and made their own? What is it that makes Barcelona so separate from other cities? Does the genius loci possess an intrinsic quality that is discernible outside of oneself, or does it translate what we experience, what circulates between us and shares itself?

Unlike with Miro, who pays homage to his native land, we traverse in this series of videos these places with the point of view of strangers, of those just passing through the city. The artists' stay lasted five days and nights and they produced six chronological videos. Surrounded by the architectural marvels which adorn Barcelona with an iconic layer, they explored—always according to the rhythms of rest and animation or reanimation—the abandoned markets, the port, the beach, the haunted streets. The soundtrack then plays to link the images in a single unit.

The final montage was organized around the fragmentation of movements with the use of key images. Reminiscent of the vanguards of cinema, the organization of the still images and the ones in movement is very often accompanied by accelerations, rewinds, moving from the horizontal to the vertical (and vice versa), and superpositions. Contrarily to Miro, who worked in black and white and put the accent on contours, this series of videos plays with blurs, and the saturation and the colour of the images.

Miro's Barcelona series precedes his Constellations series. His preoccupation, just like that of the creators of these videos, concerns the definition of a relation between a set of transcendental elements proper to the mythical quality of this city.
