1. Leicester Indoor Market opened in 1973 and is now destined to be demolished in April 2014.

There are many reasons given for its demise such as out of town and online shopping, the lack of parking and the pedestrianisation of the city centre. The indoor market is often referred to as one of the "least loved" buildings in Leicester. Myself and Burt McNeill decided to create this short film in order to record the environments, people and sounds of the indoor market before it is demolished. We became aware of mixed feelings amongst the traders. Some are looking forward to being relocated in the new food halls that are being built while others fear that they will be forced to cease trading as they will not be able to afford the cost of renting units in the new buildings.

Filming took place in the last two weeks before Christmas and we were made to feel very welcome by all of the traders. The energy of the market is contagious. When it's busy, the market is a vibrant, colourful and exciting place and as Senior Market Manager Andrew Dul says at the very end of the film, "the market experience has some of its own trump cards in the battle for business."

A huge thank you to all of the traders and customers of the indoor and outdoor market for their contributions to this film. Special thanks to the market managers Andrew Dul, Jayne Black and Steve Whitehead.

The film was shot on a Canon 7d and graded with Film Convert in FCPX.

  2. The final episode in our heritage lottery funded project, "Not Lost The Plot" - The Story of Queens Road Allotments.
This episode was challenging as I had hoped for a colourful autumnal end to the year and instead it stayed mild and uneventful until the leaves eventually fell from the trees from boredom without actually changing colour. Also, everyone had cleared off and only by using ninja stealth and vast amounts of patience was I able to obtain a few interviews from the people i bumped into. The project is now complete and I have really enjoyed working on it. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the film and I hope it gives a true account of our allotment site 2013.

  4. This is a film I have produced for the Friends of The Queens Road Allotment Society as part of their "Not Lost The Plot" heritage lottery funded project. The project has involved the production of a booklet and website as well as this film. The aim of the project has been to research and explore the history of the site as well as discovering and documenting the stories of allotment users over the years. The site is particularly unusual as the allotments are all privately owned. Allotment owners and users are not confined by regulations present on many council run sites. This film is the final edit of 4 seasonal episodes starting last winter in the thick snow. I am currently still filming an Autumn episode. The film will be screened in Leicester at the end of October 2013 at an event to celebrate the end of the project.
