Bewegung & Lebenskunst

In this version the movement of Uke is accelerated in the direction of hi sattack (gyakku hanmi). To avoid that uke is clashing with you move his grabbing hand towards your navel and then spin around and release him. Often you can do this with only one hand instead of two which is the usual practice for kote gaeshi. There are many ways to add more control or speed to the throw. One is to raise the hinder hand well enough above your head to suggest shomen uchi. If uke is defending this, move your hand in the usual way to apply kote gaeshi. If uke doesn't defend, you can throw him with this shomen uchi while controlling the other hand. Or you can accelerate the hinder leg of uke.

Kokkyo Ho has two details. The first is, how to start. Here you accept the grip of Uke, starting you rown movement by twisting and rolling your wrists such that the palms turn from a downward to an upward position. In a semi-circular trajectory you build fists but with the thumb pointing to uke's head while closing your thighs. Then you decide the side to go at. Turn the fist with the out sticking thumb outwards. Glide with the knee on the same side outward and follow with the other knee closing them. Don't use your arms to explicitly throw uke. He can block it. Just keep them in the same position relatively to ypur body.

A traditional perspective to develop ones personality and to figure out why you are on this planet: As already (Western) ancient philosophers told us, it is the body and what you decide to develop it for which is constitutive for what life you will live. There were two concurrent schools, so to say: Athen and Sparta. Athen sponsored the Olympic Games while Sparta refused to participate. What you learn to win a competition is not relevant on the battlefield. This could have been said by a samurai in later centuries. In the Western culture this knowledge became a side stream when in Japan it was the main stream. The knowledge about how to learn and develop your personality by means of your body is now coming back to us Westerners by the Eastern so-called martial arts and health systems like Yoga. In our Center for Movement & Hedonism we try to offer interrelated but different ways based upon these traditions and ancient knowledge. We, Sabine and Thomas Christaller, started many years ago by learning Aikido. Therefore a main focus here is on Aikido.
