Mark Callahan in the Terminal Physical Space

  1. A literal first attempt to merge my drawing practice with video making, raising a myriad of technical issues (duration, transitions, lighting, POV) and possibilities.

  2. Originally consisted of four disconnected stories read in voice-over fashion while the video and audio tracks slowly slipped out of sync (a software glitch that I embraced). For the revised version I edited to one story (originally sourced from an anonymous journal entry on the web) and replaced the audio track with subtitles.

  3. Originally a longer video with a somewhat linear narrative that included multiple variations of self-portraiture (live video, digital images, prints). This version isolates sections that used a technique of re-filming screens to generate video stills that were then re-animated.

  4. Portions of source material for a two-channel video storefront installation in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This version preserves the raw footage filmed on HI8 in the gardens of Cranbrook House in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

  5. Six-hundred frame loop of images scanned from vintage postcards. Used as a large-scale video projection by R.E.M. in performance with Bono during a benefit concert at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
