To create a forum for scholars, researchers and students with interests in any aspect of contemporary China, the East Asia Program, in collaboration with CAPS and Asian Studies, has established the Cornell Contemporary China Initiative. In response to widely expressed needs and interests related to contemporary China across and beyond Cornell campus, CCCI will identify and invite excellent speakers to the university starting in the spring 2015 semester to give talks on an array of interdisciplinary issues about contemporary Chinese economy, politics and society. CCCI will expand EAP’s intellectual engagement with a wide range of Cornell faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students, including those in the professional schools and STEM fields, in an active endeavor to reach across colleges and disciplinary boundaries and interact with a broader constituency at the university.

Contemporary China Lecture Series: This new weekly lecture series, launching in this spring 2015 semester, is the cornerstone of the CCCI. It will feature interdisciplinary talks by scholars and public intellectuals on contemporary issues in China. These talks will be recorded and selections will be made available to the entire Cornell community and public.

Undergraduate Seminar Course (ASIAN 3307, Fall 2015): This one-credit undergraduate course will serve to complement the lecture series by requiring students to attend several foundation-setting lectures by the instructor, and then attend the weekly talks and write short assignments. The course allows students to further engage with the themes covered each week.

New Undergraduate Courses on Contemporary China: The Initiative is currently assessing students' needs and interests related to China and is systematically developing new courses on contemporary China. Over the next several years, EAP has plans to encourage its faculty to develop a dozen more courses that would address a broad range of topics relevant to contemporary China.

Contemporary China Initiative Resource Center: The CCCI will cultivate an online presence to publicize the weekly lectures and archive the video recordings of the talks on the East Program website.
