Council of the Great City Schools

To address issues and challenges facing the nation's African-American males, CBS News chief national and 60 Minutes correspondent Byron Pitts moderated a National Town Hall Meeting on Black Male Achievement, held in conjunction with the Council of the Great City Schools' Annual Fall Conference. The town hall meeting was held on Oct. 22 in Tampa, Fla.

The forum coincided with a new study by the Council on social and educational factors contributing to black-male outcomes in urban schools. Discussing the challenges and possible solutions to black male achievement were:

Schott Foundation for Public Education President John Jackson;

Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent James Williams;

Concerned Black Men National Executive Director George Garrow;

Palm Beach Schools Black Male Task Force leader Gloria Crutchfield ;

Kansas City (Mo.) School Board President Airick West, and

Tampa 12th-grader Tevin Sutton
