Chris Ferris & Dancers is known for its fearless action, physical indulgence, and elegant design. Fists pound the floor, bodies spiral with tactile awareness, and the planes of raw space are rearranged again and again until you are dancing in your seat. This is dance created for the love of physicality and its expression. The structure and design may be complicated but it also can be human as bodies are repelled, collide, and bound through space. We are determined to give you more action than you have seen all day and make you acutely aware of its existence in your day to day life.

Chris Ferris is the artistic director of Chris Ferris & Dancers. Perfect Tension, our newest full evening work, was presented at the Martha Graham Studio Theater NYC in Nov. 2014, after premiering at FLICfest in Jan. 2014. Urban Pastoral is an outdoor improvisation with 10 sculptural lights by Warren Kloner, 10 dancers, and live music was presented, for its Spring 2014 series, in Central Park NYC and Squibb Park/Bridge, Bklyn NY. In the Fall of 2013 we presented at the Tobacco Warehouse, Brooklyn Bridge Park; The High Line and Central Park in NYC. Chris Ferris & Dancers’ collaboration with Loren Dempster, Circuitous Body, was performed at Roulette, Bklyn NY 4/12 and Green Space LIC, NY 11/12 partially funded by a Mertz Gilmore Foundation Late-Stage Stipend. Chris Ferris & Dancers’ Nov. 2011 concert, Continental Drift, was presented at CPR – Center for Performance Research Bklyn NY. Proximity Of Clouds (2010 full evening work), premiered at Joyce SoHo NYC; incorporating sculptures that hang, swing, slash, glow, and illuminate creating ethereal forms, a forest of moving architecture, and corporeal presences. Ferris' dances have been shown in New York at 3 season concerts at the Cunningham Studio Theater. Her work has also been presented at Queensboro Dance Festival, WestFest, Green Space Blooms, Biomorphic Dance Festival, Performance Mix, Solar Powered Dance Festival, Dance Conversations at the Flea, Movement Research at Judson Church, University Settlement, the 92nd Street Y, and a variety of other venues.

Chris was the curator of the SWEAT Modern Dance Series and SWEAT Outdoors from 2000 to 2007. In 2005 Chris Ferris & Dancers was awarded a Meet The Composer Grant for composer Loren Dempster. In April 2003 Chris performed, taught, and set a dance on students at Eastern New Mexico University. She has participated in residencies partially funded by Arts Midwest at Danceworks in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has taught dance at the Putney School in Vermont and at various studios in New York and Milwaukee. Chris has a BFA in dance/art from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. She currently is a massage therapist and teaches Pilates.
