  5. I am exploring the idea of perceptual transformation. A simple kaleidoscope transforms the world from the familiar to the abstract by just making the perception of the world symmetrical. If we look closely it's easy to see the original image, yet we are perceiving something completely different. While it's easy to dismiss these images as "trippy" or hallucinogenic, it trivializes the shift toward abstraction that our brain makes by removing the image from its familiar context.
Enough of the artist statement and on to the technical details. The source images are various time lapses that I've shot in Golden, Colorado and Moab, Utah. The long segment was filmed with a GoPro mounted on a vehicle as we drove through Arches National Park in Utah and sped up some 300%. The GoPro has been remarkable as a timelapse camera. The traditional time lapses were mostly shot with a Panasonic GH2. Both the GoPro and the GH2 are great inexpensive cameras for shooting timelapses.
