Error is an interactive installation that deprives the visitors of the importance of their presence in relation to the work.
It consists of a projected generative red and blue gradient that reacts to the position of the person who is passing by and/or approaching a rounded red acrylic filter, installed in front of the evolving visual composition.
Following the rules of color subtraction, when looking through the red filter, only the red gradient part is seen. When someone moves closer to the filter, this part will gradually change to blue, making the overall composition invisible to the naked eye.
The piece plays with a series of reactions: curiosity, discovery and frustration that are linked to the movement of the visitors.
Once the interaction is understood, there’s no reward to it but just a blank canvas.

RE•TURN is a digital art exhibition series that seeks to demystify current art practices for the public. The first of the RE•TURN series, KINETIC presents work produced between 2013 and 2018
Commissaire/curator : Robin Dupuis
Artistes/artists: Cinzia C., Samuel St-Aubin, Pavitra Wickramasinghe, Nelly-Eve Rajotte
Two installations of the series, BROKEN PANORAMA and LOST INTERSECTIONS
were presented together for the first time at Stereolux from the 27th
of November till 16th of December 2018. stereolux.org/agenda/cinzia-campolese
The 2 installations share the same algorithmic core.
The point of view of this virtual environment changes from one installation to the other.
The Specular series is a project that presents a set of audio-visual installations of different light sculptures created through the use of projected light and reflective materials.
Each sculpture redirects light in a different way and the reflective property of the material allows each sculpture to blend with its environment while also modifying our perception of its shape.
Networks of algorithms generate interlinked sound and light.
A cycle repeats but with infinite variations in multi-temporal-scales.
The sculpture is characterized by a uniclastic reflective surface connected to the floor.
The visuals projected onto the surface create a connection with the ground.
Light is then perceived at 3 levels: directly on the surface, as the reflection on the floor and as this second reflection onto to the sculpture.
The installation combines a set of convex surfaces placed on the floor, side by side, in the center of the space.
The reflected light rays diverge following the geometry of the surface and the generated reflections merges together creating a series light intersections.
Sharing that same algorithmic data, the two sculptures reinject the digital source into the space,
proposing two different perceptions of it.
Bringing to a real space what is created in a virtual one.

FRAME OF REFERENCE - V.1
Presented at : Galerie R3 | from February 8 to March 4, 2018 | Trois Rivière (QC), Canada
« FRAME OF REFERENCE » consists on a mirrored rectangular surface, installed, perpendicularly to a flat wall in which an evolutive visual composition is projected from the front of the mirror’s edge.
The projection is visually divided by the mirror into two almost symmetrical visual evolution. The image visible on the mirror’s surface is the specular reflection of one side of the wall and recreates the illusion of a completed symmetrical image with the projection on the other side of the mirror.
The composition recreates a geometric representations of time. The two sides of each canvas are similar but they evolve really slowly with subtle differences on either sides. The entire visualization of the piece is unique for each visitor and linked to their position in space.
The piece creates a direct connection to a (space) - time relativity concept.
Time does not progress at the same rate for everyone, everywhere.
The rate at which time passes depends on your frame of reference, as it is for the position of the visitor engaging with the piece.
Each instant and each visual perspective is unique and changes from one person to the other.
SPECULAR SERIES | FOCAL POINT
Presented at : BAM Festival | Liège - October 2017
About the project:
The Specular series is a project that presents a set of audio-visual installations of different
light sculptures created through the use of projected light and reflective materials.
Each sculpture redirects light in a different way and the reflective property of the material allows each sculpture to blend with its environment while also modifying our perception of its shape. A custom sound instrument is digitally recreated for all the sculptures and the visual composition of the artwork consists of a repeated generative structure, thus resulting in several similar yet non-identical algorithmic audio-visual « loops ».
The piece wants to represent the constant search for perfection; a quest that is here simultaneously emphasized and disrupted by the subtle differences seeping through the repetition of each sequence. Through this process, the seemingly strict uniform nature of the composition is infused back with a dynamic sense of reality.
The main component of the installation is a semi-parabolic mirror.
The projected light converge in a single point, called focus, set at the center of the shape.
The sculpture is set slightly inclined to face the visitor, creating the illusion of a continuous light projection through the mirror.
