Golan is an artist and engineer interested in exploring new modes of reactive expression. Through performances, digital artifacts, and virtual environments, Golan applies creative twists to digital technologies that highlight our relationship with machines, make visible our ways of interacting with each other, and explore the intersection of non-verbal communication and interactivity. Golan has exhibited and performed widely in Europe, America and Asia.

Specializing in using communication design to transform organizations into living systems, she has helped Fortune 100 companies, entrepreneurs, social innovators and non-profit organizations grow through identity and communication strategies and interactive design. As the founder and CEO of Heller Communication Design, she teaches and mentors social innovators and entrepreneurs, and brings design solutions to the developing world as a faculty and board member of the PopTech global innovation network.

At Parsons the New School for Design, Lara Penin focuses on service design and design for sustainable social innovation as a member of the DESIS (Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability) Lab. The lab represents a network of schools, institutions and companies interested in promoting social innovation and sustainability. An assistant professor in the Parsons School of Design Strategies, she is also the principal investigator of Amplifying Social Innovations, the most recent of her research, education and development projects dedicated to investigating and modeling sustainable ways of living through service design.
