1. Henry Reiser, College of New Caledonia (CNC) President, and Ken Burt, Northwest Community College (NWCC) President, announce the awarding of $250,000 each to their colleges by TransCanada through the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission and Coastal GasLink natural gas pipeline projects. The donation will support programs to train students in a number of skilled trades that the resource and pipeline sector will need in the coming years.

  2. This footage shot more than 50 years ago shows that, even back then, TransCanada understood pipeline construction in remote areas and extreme climates.

Much of the cross-Canada pipeline system completed in 1958, was built during the winter months — on Canadian Shield bedrock and the muskeg of Northern Ontario.

TransCanada has been constructing gas pipeline, compression and measurement facilities in the harsh climate of the northernmost parts of Alberta, since the 1970s. Working in challenging and hostile environments is nothing new to TransCanada.

That ability to adapt to challenging terrain and a difficult construction climate is typified in the recently completed Tamazunchale Extension pipeline in Mexico.

When the mountainous slopes, many in excess of 50 degrees, proved both an engineering and construction challenge, an innovative three-tower cable crane was implemented to safely build the pipeline.

Or, when unstable soil and steep terrain made a conventional buried pipeline impractical, engineers determined it was better to go through the mountain, rather than go around it.

The 672-metre-long micro tunnel was a first for a Mexican pipeline.

In Northern British Columbia, where roads are scarce, construction crews need innovative solutions, such as a sky crane helicopter to fly pipe or equipment in, to get the job done.

When it comes to high strength pipe, TransCanada has years of experience. Our advanced mechanized welding techniques include 100% ultrasonic inspection and high performance composite coatings, complete with high strength fittings.

We operate one of the world’s largest fleets of aero-derivative gas turbines for unmanned and remotely controlled gas transmission operations.

For more than 60 years, we have been safely transporting natural gas to markets. All that technical experience, innovation and a proven track record of building large infrastructure projects gives TransCanada a significant competitive advantage when building pipelines through challenging terrain and conditions across North America.

  4. "The LNG Conversation" tells the story of the Coastal GasLink Pipeline Project and how its project team has been engaging, since 2012, with Canada's British Columbia communities along the proposed route.

"The LNG Conversation" was produced during a Coastal GasLink roadshow, in the fall of 2014, and features events held in Smithers, Moricetown, Burns Lake and Vanderhoof.

The story follows Pepita Elena, Aboriginal Relations Lead, as she and the rest of the Coastal GasLink team engage in conversations with northern B.C. residents about the proposed pipeline, natural gas and LNG.

The film also features Erik Neandross, an LNG expert who shares his knowledge of liquefied natural gas – its properties, how it behaves when released into the air and how the gas is converted to liquid.

“The LNG Conversation” ensures viewers have the information they need to come to their own conclusions about B.C.’s emerging LNG industry and the benefits Coastal GasLink will bring to British Columbia.

Coastal GasLink Pipeline Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of TransCanada PipeLines Limited, proposes to develop a natural gas pipeline from northeast B.C. to the west coast of B.C. to serve export markets.

  5. An Aboriginal training partnership in the Prince George area will help northern B.C communities meet a booming demand for skilled labour in the LNG industry.

One group, the Prince George Nechako Aboriginal Employment and Training Association (PGNAETA) has been working for the past 20 years to build transferable workplace skills among Aboriginal youth from the Prince George — Nechako area’s 17 First Nations. In the last four years alone, PGNAETA has placed more than 2,700 students into the workforce.

The joint donation from Coastal GasLink and Prince Rupert Gas Transmission (PRGT) Project, totalling just over $250,000, will help PGNAETA meet the demand for local, skilled labour needed for energy-related projects, including natural gas pipelines.

Coastal GasLink Pipeline Ltd. is proposing to develop an approximately 650-kilometre, provincially regulated pipeline to safely deliver natural gas from Dawson Creek to Kitimat, B.C. Coastal GasLink Pipeline Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of TransCanada Pipeline Limited.

PRGT is a 900-kilometre natural gas pipeline project in northern British Columbia. If approved, it will safely deliver natural gas from a point near the District of Hudson’s Hope to a proposed Pacific NorthWest LNG facility on Lelu Island within the District of Port Edward.

Connecting reliable and affordable sources of energy to markets is the foundation of North America's prosperous economy and high standard of living. Whether it is natural gas to heat homes and fuel industry, electricity to keep lights on and computers running, or gasoline that moves millions of vehicles every day, nothing is more fundamental to maintaining and enhancing our quality of life.

TransCanada has been safely delivering critical energy products across the continent for more than 60 years and has a solid track record of responsible development, reliable operations, and treating our customers, partners and stakeholders with integrity and respect.

We operate one of the largest natural gas transmission networks in North America — 68,500 kilometres (km) (42,500 miles) — tapping into virtually every major gas supply basin and transporting approximately 20 per cent of the continent's daily natural gas supply. We are North America's third largest provider of natural gas storage and related services with more than 400 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of storage capacity.

We own or have interests in 21 power facilities with the capacity to generate 11,800 megawatts (MW) of electricity, enough to power nearly 12 million homes. One-third of the power we produce comes from emission-less sources including nuclear, hydro, wind and solar.
