Mike Davis is in his early 60’s. Mike experienced both the March 1947 and July 2007 floods. He remembers, as a child, being passed out of the top floor window of his home in Deerhurst in the 1947 floods. His family lived in the Alms houses, which have since been knocked down. Mike now lives with his wife at their home in Newtown, Tewkesbury. However, at the time of the floods his disabled son was also living with them. Since the floods his son has moved out and now lives on his own. As a career Mike worked as a HGV driver, travelling all across Europe. At the time of the floods Mike worked for the local company Cotswold Dairy Ltd. On the day of the flood Mike was trying to deliver milk to Leicester. On his way back to Tewkesbury he had to pull out cars from flooded water and it took many hours to get home. Mike’s role in the floods was to transport milk, basic food stuffs, and water across the county. He admits that he worked more than he legally should due to driving regulations, but had no choice; people needed water to live and survive. His wife and son lived upstairs in their house which was seriously flooded whilst Mike continued to work.
