Video Journalism (Contemporary Art Scene)

Ikono On Air Festival
06 - 29 September 2013
Kjosk, Cuvrystrasse 2-3, Berlin

Interview with Elizabeth Markevitch, founder of Ikono.

At the occasion of the Ikono On Air Festival I talked to the founder and director of the TV station Ikono Elizabeth Markevitch. We met in the double decker in the courtyard of Artitude / SRS Berlin in Kreuzberg. The stream from Ikono TV played on the wall as one part of the Ikono On Air Festival. The playlist of audiovisual works was curated by Jack Pam (Curator, Ikono TV Festival). I tried to find out why we need a TV station focusing mainly on visual arts considering there has been recently an evident decrease of audiences watching television. All the statistics indicate that television is an entertainment for older generations. In the video-interview Markevitch disagrees with my opinion and talks about her experience with audiences in the Middle East and North Africa where Ikono is active.
