  4. Torpoint Nursery and Infant School has a very active School Council which plays a vital role in the life of our school. It gives all our pupils an opportunity to express their views and to have a say in the decision making that affects their school and the learning environment.

The Council is made up of representatives from each of the Year One and Year Two classes. In the summer term they are joined by children from EYFS2

The Council meets weekly and the agenda is agreed upon by the class reps. Each rep then reports back to his or her class.

They are currently undertaking a project looking at making lunchtimes even healthier for all children. They have undertaken interviews with children across the school.

This wonderful school council have inspired us in so many ways in recent years and we wanted to share that inspiration more widely.

  5. We recently supported a Health and Wellbeing Day at Callington Community College, by bringing community chef, Sanjay Kumar, to cook with students. Our aim for the day was to film a short video, shot by a professional media company, showing the process of food moving ‘From Plot to Plate’ within the school environment. Sanjay used produce grown in the school’s allotment to make salad, as well as freshly caught fish from Looe, to make Seafood Kedgeree. The students then all sat down together to enjoy the meal they had cooked. They also presented the local foodbank with some of their allotment produce, a relationship that will continue into the future.
