Here is a short video Robert made of our late spring backpacking trip to Tank Lakes in Washington's beautiful Alpine Lakes Wilderness ... the music is original ... written, arranged and composed by our good friend David Michael of Purnima Productions – ... and performed by him and others from the Port Townsend area ... they all participated in our latest feature ... "The Irate Birdwatcher" – ... btw this is all protected by copyright laws ... plez respect this and don't copy or use – thx.

Anyhow ... the trip was to be 3 days – with the forecast calling for a great weather window. We headed straight to Tank Lakes basin on the first day and set up camp just above the lakes (hitting solid snow just before Opal, the last lake in Necklace Valley which lies about 1000' below) and had the whole place to ourselves the entire time (we saw a few tracks in the snow but not many so the place had not been visited much till then). That evening and night it was warm so we stayed up late watching the clouds come and go and stargazing. The next morning it was beautiful as predicted ... so we just leisurely explored the basin and relaxed a lot .. something we rarely do. Then the clouds started rolling in during the afternoon .. and they just kept coming and coming ... and getting darker and darker. They made for some terrific photo ops ... but by 7pm we had to hit the tent because it was starting to drizzle. Through the night the wind blew fiercely (a good test for our new "lite" Big Ag 3-season tent – it held up in the wind but it wasn't as warm on snow as our old SD Hyperlite) ... and at 4am when we usually get up to take sunrise shot it was socked in and still wet and blowing .. no ops for us so we slept in (also a rarity). By 7 it was still bad ... but I kept saying, hey it's supposed to be nice today ... so we waited and waited. By 1pm we were growing very tired of the tent and decided to just pack it up and head back down – we were in a whiteout till we got to Opal again. It was wet the whole way out but not pouring ... and very beautiful (compared to the hot and dry trail coming in). This was our first trip into this area .. and can't wait till next year to explore there more ... and to hopefully climb Mts Hinman and Daniel ... the scenery is just spectacular!!!

RT 19.25 mi ... total elevation gain 5999' ... camp and high point at 5925'
