The Center for Virtue and Learning

  1. Covering chapter 9 of Dr. Scott Hahn's Understanding the Scriptures, Brandon addresses the conquest of Canaan and the back and forth attitudes of the Israelites in relation to the one true God. By not following God and driving out the Canaanites completely, the Israelites eventually adopt the practices of idolatry and the desires to be ruled by an earthly king "like the other nations". Saul, the first earthly King of Israel, starts off well but fades quickly after losing sight of the source of his power and authority.

About the Instructor:

Brandon Barker was born and raised in Greenville, TX. The eldest of three kids, Brandon grew up in a devout Baptist household. He had a Prodigal Son-like experience throughout his early twenties before his profound conversion and reunion with his heavenly Father at age 26. Planning on becoming a Protestant pastor or seminary professor, he began an intensive study of the Bible and was sent by his church to Dallas Theological Seminary. The more he immersed himself in Scripture and Church History the more he found it to support the Catholic faith. Eventually, he was compelled in conscience to enter the Catholic Church, which he did in 2009. Brandon is currently pursuing a Master’s in Theology through the University of Dallas and Franciscan University at Steubenville. He currently lives in Greenville, TX with his wife, Ericha and daughter, Eve.
