Last weekend was my "birthday weekend". I celebrated in my usual fashion by doing something adventure-like. This year, I hiked up Mount Defiance, a 4800' quad burner for sure. It is mostly trees and rocks but you are rewarded with some killer views now and then. This is one of my favorite hikes in the Gorge.
Some scenes from our trips to the coast. On one of these trips I brought along a REAL Steadicam Merlin and tested it against my $50.00 DIY. The Merlin is by far easier to balance and it is fairly inconspicuous when folded up. However the stabilization once achieved is only marginally smoother that the DIY. When time is money, the Merlin is probably the way to go.
About 75% of this video was shot with the camera sitting on the Merlin or the DIY, even the stationary shots!
I readily admit my steadicam skills need work!
