“They appear to be incredibly strong but also fragile and driven, filling the theatre with contagious energy. Corps de Walk is trance, fusion and explosion, sensitive rave and wild poetry.” (scenekunst.no, Norway)

Norway’s leading contemporary dance company will be featured at Danse Danse in their first visit to Canada. Twelve dancers will be presenting Corps de Walk, a splendid work by Gai Behar and Sharon Eyal, a choreographer whose piece Bertolina was performed by Batsheva Dance Company at Danse Danse in 2007. In artistic residence at this prestigious Scandinavian institution, Sharon Eyal created a piece inspired by walking, which for her is the new dance. From this prosaic subject matter she has woven a mysterious, fascinating work where dancers in body tights become mythical creatures, asexual and unsettling, who conquer the space with exemplary precision. “A dream at times almost frightening, but throughout breathtakingly beautiful. You wish for ten eyes for a total panoramic view.” (coolibri.de, Germany). Hypnotic.

Danse Danse celebrates its 15th anniversary

Good news for dance lovers! To celebrate its 15th anniversary, the Danse Danse series will be presenting the most ambitious season of its young history with no less than 12 companies – 6 from abroad and 6 from Quebec – performing on the different stages in Place des Arts, our invaluable Danse Danse partner.

Passports and airline tickets in order, Danse Danse will be welcoming in 2012-2013 Carte Blanche from Norway, TAO Dance Theater from China, T.r.a.s.h. from Netherlands, Hofesh Shechter from the United Kingdom, and from Spain the great María Pagés, who will be gracing the stage of Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier.

And the local panorama is just as exciting! We welcome the return of the always inspiring Margie Gillis, the touching and charismatic José Navas, the energetic BJM – Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, the Albertan choreographer Azsure Barton and her New York-based company, and the contemporary flamenco company La Otra Orilla. Danse Danse is also pleased to present the audacious Groupd’ArtGravelArtGroup directed by Frédérick Gravel, and Sinha Danse in a magnificent collaboration with the musical ensemble Constantinople. Enjoy 12 shows, each with its distinct personality, and all renowned for the quality of their work and their quest for excellence. A fascinating dance season awaits!
