DEVELOP Tube: Photography to Watch

Houston Center for Photography is proud to present the exhibition, Soldier, at Ease. Through the work of Tim Hetherington, Louie Palu, and Erin Trieb, this exhibition will look at how active soldiers spend their private time "at ease," while they are off duty, and also after they return home. Photographs and videos by these three photographers, as well as images created by active duty soldiers themselves, will illustrate a more personal experience of the solder as an individual.

The exhibition will directly coincide with the encyclopedic exhibition WAR/PHOTOGRAPHY: Images of Armed Conflict and Its Aftermath presented by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, which will also include work by Hetherington, Palu, and Trieb. HCP's exhibition will be on view from November 8, 2012 through January 6, 2013. The exhibition is organized by Executive Director Bevin Bering Dubrowski, Exhibition Coordinator Libbie J. Masterson, and the HCP Exhibitions Committee.

Tim Hetherington’s three-screen video installation, Sleeping Soldiers, courtesy of Tim Hetherington and Magnum Photos, will be on view in the West Gallery during this exhibition. HCP will also exhibit all fifteen works from Louie Palu's portraiture project, Afghanistan: Garmsir Marines. Alongside these images, HCP will exhibit photographs by the soldiers, Louie’s journals, and various artifacts that he has collected while in Afghanistan. Erin Trieb's compelling photographs of soldiers in Afghanistan and at home, The Homecoming Project, will also be on view.
