Wanderings with my camera

  1. A cold day in Prestonpans, early January 2016. A walk beside the grey, wintry waters of the River Forth. Sometimes inspiration comes unexpectedly... this improvisation on the timeless song Sally Free and Easy evolved after returning home to the warmth of a log fire. The photos were taken in April 2015, as the Spring sun set over the seascape.

  2. A selection of images captured during walks in and around Edinburgh, and my travels further afield in Scotland

  3. The winters of 2009/10 and 2010/11 were memorable... deep snow and hard frosts changed the city and country landscapes into something magical, reminiscent of those from childhood days. Despite considerable disruption to transport for many, and extreme hardship for some, I look back on these winter wonderland images with much fondness - a reminder of the inherent beauty of each of the seasons.

  4. Water, in its various forms, created the Scottish landscape we enjoy so much today. Over the millennia, glaciers and rivers have carved out valleys, eroded stark & rocky volcanic outcrops, and created the rolling countryside of the Scottish lowlands. I originally uploaded the photographs included in this collection - selected from numerous walks over the past few years - to Photography Scotland's Facebook Gallery for February 2013, entitled "Water". Many more images posted in the gallery by other photographers can be viewed here - https://www.facebook.com/events/528112197220565/.

  5. A walk from Flotterstone (near Penicuik) to Balerno, via Glencorse, Loganlea, Thriepmuir and Harlaw reservoirs on a glorious September day in 2012. With clear blue skies and little wind, the reflections of the surrounding hills on the water were almost perfect.

Combining three of my passions - countryside rambles, photography and music - this channel showcases a collection of slideshows incorporating images taken during some of my strolls, combined with original music.

The Scottish landscape, both urban and rural, is truly inspirational - the musical slideshows included here, together with many albums of my photographs hosted on Picasa (at http://picasaweb.google.com/dougiemat) are primarily a visual diary of my wanderings over several years, both local and further afield.
