An in-depth documentary that told the bigger story behind Japan’s earthquake

NOVA quickly brought together an extraordinary amount of information, footage and insight to tell the bigger story behind the most violent earthquake ever recorded in Japan. Critical questions were answered; what caused the earthquake and how this quake fits into the history, science, and understanding of the phenomenon. Within days of the quake, an international NOVA team was shooting in Japan filming from the air to explain what occurred on the ground. The team tackled the devastating human tragedy with authoritative on-site reporting while staying true to its science-based mission. Graphics succeeded in making complex scientific issues understandable. With confidence and clarity, NOVA presented the first full-length news documentary with gripping human stories and an in-depth scientific perspective.
