During this panel, The New York Times multimedia team discussed how "A Year at War" grew from the beat of one reporter, James Dao, into a yearlong series of articles, videos, still photography and audio, as well as media submitted from readers. The team of 11 balanced their usual responsibilities at The New York Times as they were creating a new way of covering and telling stories of the soldiers and their families impacted by the war in Afghanistan.

    The panel was held in conjunction with the Columbia Journalism School 2012 Spring Prep Day.

  5. Richard Engel, chief foreign correspondent at NBC News, spoke to Columbia Journalism School students on their first day returning from winter break. On Wednesday evening, January 18, over 250 students and faculty filled the audience as Engel spoke with an old colleague, William Wheatley, Jr. who is former executive vice president at NBC News.

    Engel and NBC News received the 2012 duPont-Columbia Award for coverage of the Arab Spring.
