Doodlecast is used to enhance understanding of the Make Ten strategy. Students choose a card with a 3 part equation. They then build the equation with 3 sets of blocks. Next, they open the Doodlecast app and use the camera to capture a picture of their block equation. They then circle ten, write the equation the ten-way, and solve the equation. Thinking and reasoning are captured as students work in pairs to complete this math task.
Science and engineering practices allow students to purposefully develop and use literacy skills. In our first grade classroom, active investigations and collaborative discussions lead to writing that reflects a deep understanding of content-specific vocabulary and science concepts.
