  5. Beethoven wrote his 1st string quintet in 1795, shortly after settling in Vienna. Written in E-flat, it is an adaptation of a wind octet he wrote few years earlier, although, when working on his sting quintet, Beethoven made some important changes, not only in the construction but also by adding new thematical material. Written in E-flat major, this work reflects the typical writing of the young Beethoven and is in many ways similar to his first piano trios and even more to his string trios.
