Activated yeast are exposed to serial concentrations of household bleach. Carbon dioxide production by the yeast is used to determine the lethal dose. This provides a fast an inexpensive means for students to apply the principle of dose-response to different pollutants. The fermentation vials were obtained from the Carolina Biological Supply (Basic Fermentation BioKit). The write-up for this activity is provided in this lab manual for environmental science:
