  2. CASE 1: Ukrainian documentary film during the war in Eastern Ukraine
Political and social transformations that took place in Ukraine during the Maidan revolution and have still been developing, caused the uplift in Ukrainian documentary film in times of war. ‘Babylon 13’ is one of the numerous works in which filmmakers touch upon the theme of the war at the East. There are two major motivations for filming the reality of war, namely, pragmatic and reflexive. The first one is related to the role of documentary as evidence; in the context of Ukraine in 2014-2015, it is a cinematic representation of human rights violations as well as violations of domestic and international law. The latter one encompasses authors’ attempts to describe and/or comprehend facts, phenomena, circumstances, and experiences with the usage of such tools as camera and display, bringing up an opportunity for all those who are involved in these events to determine their positions. Have the creative team of ‘Babylon’13’ managed to do so? We made an attempt to analyze and delineate the authors’ perspective on the war at the East; whether authors were merely to document and chronicle the war’s events or ‘Babylon’13’ offers philosophical and ethical interpretations of the conflict as well? Seeking answers to these questions predetermined the goals and objectives of this research.

    CASE 2: Ukrainian Docu Drama
The social mission of Ukrainian theater activism is aimed at proclamation of docudrama as a universal language, asserting the equality of different generations in the face of death, war, totalitarianism, which frees the opportunity to discuss the problem of historical justice, as it is relevant to the present moment, the losses that are measured globally, the right of memory and personal biography as approval of existential choice in the existence of a man of the XXI century. In western countries docudrama never stopped a dialogue with the aesthetics of performativity but in Ukraine its innovation is associated with the inspection of theater as a social institution, opening of the possibility of experimentation and allegories of the national project.
