1. From July 7th to July 25th 2014, FWB partnered with the Young Women's Leadership Network (ywln.org) to teach filmmaking and digital storytelling to middle and high school students from The Young Women's Leadership Schools (TYWLS) in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Astoria, Jamaica Queens, and East Harlem.

FWB educators designed and implemented the TYWLS Summer Media Lab where students learned how to operate the camera and microphone, conduct interviews, shoot B-roll, and even edit their own footage. Students traveled across NYC on daily field trips to such organizations as the NYU Nursing Center, Goldman Sachs, Urban Yoga, and the Liberty Science Center and made short films about their experiences.

  2. FILMMAKERS WITHOUT BORDERS (FWB) sends filmmakers to Kathmandu, Nepal to teach filmmaking, media literacy, and 21st century technology skills directly to Nepali students through Volunteers Initiative Nepal (volunteersinitiativenepal.org).

During their year abroad, FWB educators are also instructed to submit weekly 1-2 minute video updates in response to various open-ended prompts. Participants are encouraged to create short documentary, narrative, or even experimental videos that encapsulate their overseas experience. While some videos may be purely informative, others may be fun and playful. Overall, these videos are designed to chronicle FWB educators' experience in their new community.
