Film School - Filmmaking

  1. I've been asked a lot what the process of making these essays is like, but rather than just droll on about recording voiceover, late night editing sessions, and falling into despair upon seeing the first cut, I want to take these few minutes to talk about how that working process has evolved creatively over the past year, and about where I'm trying to take these essays in the future.

In a world where live-action and animation are growing closer and closer to one another, Richard Williams was and still is one of the last remaining members of the old guard who wanted to push animation in the exact opposite direction, to do what no other medium can, and that's perhaps most evident in the masterful way in which his films move. Let's dive in and see what we can learn.

Special thanks to Garrett Gilchrist for TheThiefArchive, his massive collection of Williams-related films and interviews found on YouTube, and his ReCobbled cut of Williams' stolen masterpiece The Thief and the Cobbler. This video simply wouldn't have been possible without either resource.

    Hey guys,
The short film that was made in my final year of university with George Warren is now on Vimeo it would be great to know what you think. ’Uki is a short stop frame animation following a lonely Inuit who struggles to survive after an oil tanker leaks oil off the coast of Alaska, killing all the wildlife in the area. A dark comedy about companionship, loneliness and pollution. Created and funded as part of the BBC and BFI's Animation 2018 scheme.’
