"An Art is Born," was how the Washington Times described the premiere screening of CityDance Ensemble's Dance on Camera division, FilmWORKS in 2003. In the time since FilmWORKS has won the Washington, DC Mayor's Arts Award for Innovation in the Arts, partnered with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on an international dance on camera festival and created a series of original films, documentaries and programs that set it apart.

In 2008 FilmWORKS has focused on the creation of a series of Inside Looks, exploring the creative process of making new dances, reconstructing great works from dance's past and tackling the issues of climate change and global warming.
