“I feel like my umbilical chord is attached to every country,” says Zuzuka Poderosa, whose underground following has swelled internationally the last 10 years. The baile funk rapper and vocalist soaked up a myriad of musical styles, raised by parents of Indonesian and Portuguese decent in Rio de Janeiro & Vitoria, Brazil, and later, the West Indies.

Zuzuka channeled her love for dance music, becoming a drum&bass DJ in New York City’s rave scene in the 90s. Staying true to her eclectic taste, she studied jazz vocal improvisation at the New School in Manhattan and deejayed classic Brazilian music in downtown's clubs.

With music in her veins, and at the coaxing of other Brazilian baile funk DJs in New York City, Zuzuka soon had a microphone in her hand. Since then, she has been rapping and singing in Portuguese with a verve that’s both sexy and gritty, electrifying audiences all over town with dance-heavy sets.

Since then, Zuzuka has never looked back. Her single “Mas come Você” landed in the Billboard charts in Singapore and received international recognition in outlets like Time Out Singapore. More recently, her video with Brazilian hip hop starMarcelo D2 was nominated for 2010 Video of the Year in MTV Brazil. She has gained a hungry fan base across Europe, with particularly strong followings in electronic music centers Berlin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Paris.

For her debut EP, Zuzuka Poderosa is working with pioneering producers of global electronic music spanning across India, Colombia, Montreal, Europe, Mexico, and of course, New York City and Brazil. She draws inspiration from sounds of Latin America to the Caribbean, Africa, Electronic or Rock & Roll music.
