Folk Fair 2014

Every other year, MJDS students in junior kindergarten through fifth grade participate in a six-week unit of study called Folk Fair. Each grade focuses on a different country and learns about the culture through dynamic and engaging hands-on activities. Students explore the arts, music, literature, dances and cuisines of other countries, as well as the cultures’ Jewish history and traditions. This in-depth study helps children appreciate and understand the importance of diversity. And while students are having fun learning about other cultures, they’re also practicing their reading, writing and speechmaking skills.

Then students enjoy a 'plane ride' to kick off the Folk Fair, parents and friends are then invited to see all their hard work and listen to the presentations they've prepared.

Folk Fair is sponsored in memory of Jordan Weigler who was a devoted grandfather of two MJDS students, Noah and Max Bernstein, and believed deeply in the value of a Jewish education.
