"The Everyday Life of the Berlin Wall" is the next stage in the evolution of the long-term project "Freedom Rocks" begun by artists and Ryerson University professors, Blake Fitzpatrick and Vid Ingelevics in 2003. Its primary goal is to explore the collective and personal meaning(s) of the continuing migration of large and small fragments of the Berlin Wall to North America (and the instability of the Wall within Berlin itself). The project is based on the premise that the history of the Berlin Wall did not end in 1989 but now has continued in the form of multiple histories related to each fragment and massive trophy slab. The "Freedom Rocks" title was taken from a bag of Wall pieces being sold in Toronto in the early 1990s. These videos, like the Wall pieces themselves, can be seen as fragments of an always incomplete and unattainable whole.
