Geert Wachtelaer

(In the sixteenth century, Spain occupies Flanders....At times it feels rather like walking barefoot over a marble floor )
a video projection

with Emilie De Vlam and Bart Gabriels
A portrait of a couple both fabulous artists
It is also a reference to the film location of' L'Oeuvre au noir' by André Delvaux based on a novel of Marguerite Yourcenar novel, and shows the austerity she was famous for.

Geert Wachtelaer is a videographer
He works with film, Photography, Installation art, Drawing and Sound pieces, often incorporating all mediums simultaneously to create experimental films, theater and performance art. His artworks act as a structure from which the viewer may build upon his or her own presumptions about optics and what it means to view projections and spaces. Experimental work by Geert Wachtelaer is mostly focused on forming and researching of layered inner states, forces that may build up different tensions between the subjects. Visual identity given to the strong and deep interpretations of the performers creates a cohesion with the sound that is a very important part of it. Observing transition of states and forms, exploring the relationships of matter and the inner content, in his work, Geert Wachtelaer often refers to the human consciousness and its paths, showing a "life" outside of contexts familiar to us, also visually portraying the alienation and the dark, even disturbing, from a psychologically more difficult points of view. Mental time is the key of his work. The Bergsonian 'deep self', where the different configurations of individuals' memories and experience mean that each spectator makes different choices, works with different perceptual frames.

“‘Geert Wachtelaers work investigates the human condition and touches on ideas of reality and existence, with a particular emphasis on the emotive space. Recurrent themes include: space, confrontations, the theatrical, the concept of the boundary as well as the interplay between presence and absence. Essentially, the works explore the inner deep that we all feel as human beings at some point in our lives. The work often draws the viewer into an uncertain world where truth and imagination come into conflict whilst simultaneously referencing the theatrical and in some cases. Ordinary things are raised into an alienated world.’” August 10, 2012

“Geert Wachtelaer understands the strangeness in life. He wants to know why this is perceived as this and why that is perceived as that. This is the way it is. Some people see beauty in carnage others sadness in amazement. For him art embodies something deep inside us all. Representing images from a damaged and fragmented humanity, unspoken fears and desires that everyone knows and but hides them.” August 12, 2012
