A short profile of a professional hoola hoop performer named, Soolah Hoops. I produced this in a day with the help of three other media teachers who were my crew and had traveled to Washington DC to learn more about filmmaking and storytelling techniques as part of the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs Teacher Bootcamp. These teachers will go back to their schools and start an SRL Lab this year with their class to produce content for the PBS NewsHour. There were multiple teams all doing profiles on local performers. We were so lucky to get Soolah. She was such a beautiful soul and was really easy to work with. She was also very accommodating to how I took a lot of time to explain what I was doing to the other teachers. It was so much fun to use the GoPro on this project. We attached it to the inside of the hoop with a bongo tie. (see pictures below) We also tried putting the GoPro facing out, (as seen in the picture) but the footage was just dizzying. The GoPro was also placed beneath her.
