Full Session Description:
“Instructional Design w/Project Based Learning and STEM in the Global Learning Framework”
This disruptive session delivers upgraded Adult Learning and K-12 Instructional Design methods that were researched on college students and not designed to handle collaborative based society. Although this is a high tech solution it was developed to help urban poverty and students with trauma. These techniques teach the whole class and not just the front rows.
This session is about our research to address the issues of poverty, diversity and learning styles in the classroom by leveraging Project Based Learning along with the collaborative resources of the Internet.
The multimedia session offers a serious upgrade to educational Instructional Design and class management methods, that were developed prior to our Web20 collaborative society. Using simple Personal Learning Framework models we identify, handle of transform negative value systems through project based learning. New research on STEM with youth of color in NYC points out that it is not the curriculum that transforms the student for college. It is the mentoring. The “context” of human collaboration is now more important that the “content” of the curriculum. This session trains the educator how to handle diversity with current curriculum standards
Learning in a global collaborative is entirely different than the textbooked classroom. The session offers a simple Personal Learning Framework model of: Perceive, Process and Create for the educator to follow. A second curriculum model called the Global Learning Framework provides another simple method of PBL: Problem>Discover>Adopt>Collaborate>Share. These models automatically handle diversity in the classroom and learning styles.
The session stress the impact of human technical collaboration in public life in contrast to standard classroom teaching practices, why that is disconnect with youth experience with digital learning and what the educator can do fix it.
In the end of the session we will walk step by step through an Art design lesson using these simple methods.
This lesson is an assignment for my Masters in Adult Learning at Empire State College State University of New York.
