In an essay published recently in the Quarterly Essay, former Liberal speech writer Guy Pearse argues that carbon intense industry, or the 'greenhouse mafia', has compromised the government's policy on climate change with their heavyweight lobby power.
Pearse says that the federal government suffers from "quarry vision", as evidenced in its Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.
"A decision has been made to look after the short-term interests of a few polluters ... even if it means we've outsourced all of those green job opportunities to another country," says Pearse.
