What happens upstream always effect the downstream community. Collaboration between the two is crucial. Green buffer zones are deliberately kept along the Wissahickon to keep the environment more natural. When there are hard surfaces and development, water cannot infiltrate into the soil. There is a unique relationship between our rivers and waterways and what is happening on the land. As we green blocks, take away impervious surfaces and keep green buffer zones we are better able to manage storm water.
