  3. The film was made for installation in the new Durham world heritage site visitors centre. The aim was to produce a short film to give visitors a basic introduction and stimulate interest in exploring the site further.

Part of the concept for the project was to work with a group of Durham University students during the production. I was in Durham for seven days, during which we went through the whole process of producing the documentary. From the initial preproduction meeting where we discussed different approaches and ideas through to filming and the initial editing stages.

Stylistically we wanted to avoid voice overs and try to tell the story of Durham through the voices of some of the people who live and work around the site. We also wanted to breathe life into the spaces by focusing on the variety of contemporary activities going on.

The production team who as students, live and work on the site itself, were instrumental in tracking down interviewees, scouting locations and coordinating the production. We also ran over technical aspects of the filming, sound and light and much of the final film was shot by the students.

  5. Slides of an interesting Scottish city centre and a natural beach where you will not find candy floss or bingo.

Other statues in the city include; Queen Victoria, Robert Burns, Admiral Duncan and James Carmichael.

In recent years there has been a lot of development of the city with lots of construction work going on, with the Scottish Social Services Council, The Care Commission and the Office of the Scottish Charities Regulator recently relocating to Riverside area and Communities Scotland and Her Majesty's Inspector of Education moving to the Greenmarket area.
