  2. In the New Year the Hansard Society is delighted to be announcing the arrival of two new editors for our quarterly Parliamentary Affairs journal. To mark this occasion we will be hosting a high profile event in Portcullis House as part of our Annual Parliamentary Affairs Lecture.

With the ongoing debate over media ethics and practice, the fascinating revelations uncovered throughout the Leveson Inquiry and the public's fierce reaction to them, the theme of 2012's annual lecture will aptly focus on Parliament and the media. The event will commence with a keynote speech by Tom Watson MP, who enthralled viewers over the summer with his persistence and piercing questions during the culture, media and sport committee's inquiry into the phone hacking scandal. Our two new editors, Professor Philip Cowley and Professor Jonathan Tonge, will invite the audience put their questions to Tom.

    Lecture:

    Tom Watson MP

    Introduction:

Professor Philip Cowley (Co-Editor of the Hansard Society's Parliamentary Affairs journal)

    Chair:

Professor Jonathan Tonge (Co-Editor of the Hansard Society's Parliamentary Affairs journal)

+ More

The Hansard Society is the UK's leading independent, non-partisan, political research and education charity.

We aim to strengthen parliamentary democracy and encourage greater public involvement in politics. At the heart of our work is the principle that civic society is most effective when its citizens are connected with the institutions and individuals who represent them in the democratic process. There has never been more urgency for Parliament to engage with the public.

Our commitment to promoting a greater understanding of politics and democracy is manifest in the number of high profile, free events we hold in and around Parliament. All of our events are open to the public and we actively encourage individuals from all sectors to contribute to discussion. Our most recent events can be listened to here, on our Vimeo channel. We hope you enjoy these stimulating debates and we will value your comments.
