Music Dance Theater Opera Movie by Heike Hennig & Co

  1. MARIA Contemporary Dance Oratorio by Heike Hennig

Festival of Handel in “Neues Theater” (new theater) in Halle – Premiere: 8 of June 2010

The name Maria means the Shrew. Being a Shrew – not fitting any image: dancers, musicians and singers from Opera- and Ballet-Ensemble HEIKE HENNIG & CO are acting together and step on stage, regardless of their profession, as needy, passionate, people a one’s mercy: they tremble, pray and fall into Madonna’s coat of refuge, which at the same time is being used as bed sheet and as net for fishes. It’s about the guilt and innocence of our bodies, into which our present conception of women was inscribed about 2000 years ago by the Immaculate Conception. Pure and holy or full of relish and bad – whoever who dares to watch may decide.

Our preconceived pictures of femininity of the figure Maria vacillate between the praised and the strongly painful woman, between the admiration of the divine and the contempt of the physic, between the saint and the whore. The production combines singing and orchestra, music, dance, light and room in a way that lets the spirit of the baroque era be recognised, transposing into to the present: Everyone – musicians, dancers and singers – are part of a physical stage direction. Cantatas and arias of Mary by George Frideric Handel and Alessandro Scarlatti in an interpretation of the baroque orchestra Lautten Compagney from Berlin form the historical musical tableau, which get transposed in an electronic sound-space by the sound artist DJ CFM. The stage design assumes a central place within the ambiguity of divine rapture and erotic ecstasy: The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa by Bernini is considered an example of the relationship between religiosity, lust and cruelty formulated in baroque times. Through hyperpixulation of the picture the viewer is reminded of today’s practice of making criminal offenders and victims unrecognisable in the media or in pornographic material. 2. RITUALS a Dance Opera for Georg Frideric Handel by Heike Hennig (80min)

Rituals and Ceremonies are anchorages in the flow of time. They are meetings to remove time and create a new ”time-room”, in which the big questions of human self-assurance become perceptible: funerals, weddings and birthdays, religious customs and personal rituals are the basis of the new production for the operatic arias of George Frideric Handel. We believe the music of Handel holds and held a conciliatory consciousness of our temporality against the feeling of emptiness in the escaping time. With a Homage to George Frideric Handel, the scene, the music, the dance itself becomes anchorage: to a ritual of bodies in a virtual world of disappearance.

  3. Timeless - New Museum Berlin - ECHO Klassik

Old classical music and modern dance – Lautten Compagney with Heike Hennig & Co in the ”Neues Museum Berlin” (“New Museum of Berlin”)

Tension and transaction between old classical music, dance and modern architecture of the ”Neuen Museum Berlin”.

A first glimpse into the „Neues Museum Berlin” on the „Museumsinsel Berlin“ (“Museum Island Berlin“): David Chipperfield and his team transfer the building to the „Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin” (“National Museums of Berlin”). In March 2009 the empty halls become the setting for a special art happening. Old music and new dance get into dialog with architecture.

  4. LEAPS IN TIME Dance Theater of Generations by Heike Hennig

Orginal: ZEITSPRÜNGE Tanztheater der Generationen von Heike Hennig

”Leaps in time” is the dance theater with autobiographic elements from the generations of dancers, choreographed by Heike Hennig. This is the new dance-theater according to the film ”dancing with time” and the choreography ”time – dancing since 1927”. This dance-theater is about the exchange between several generations of ballet dancers, which are moving between different energies, ideas and experiences. These dancing moments are perceptible within the different dance techniques. The Ensemble lead by Heike Hennig moves from expressive dance via the classical repertoire until the progressive dance technique of contact-improvisation between dancers. Such spontaneous dance encounters evoke a development in the young and older bodies.

The autobiographical dance-theater “Time – dancing since 1927“ (2005/2006) by Heike Hennig with the four older protagonists Ursula, Christa, Siegfried und Horst was produced by the film-maker Trevor Peters as “Dancing with time” for ZDF, ARTE and cinemas. “Dancing with time“ is also available on DVD and as a book, edited by the author Marion Appelt.
