Hui o Laka

A Civilian Conservation Corps camp, set in lush native forest in the mountains of Kauaʻi, is abuzz with fresh life as youthful volunteers restore the 1935 complex of wood-framed buildings for a new era of conservation history. Itʻs "The New C.C.C.," the COMMUNITY Conservation Corps, linking past and present to save forests for the future! Renovations to the once-abandoned camp, placed on the National and Hawaiʻi State Registers of Historic Sites in 1996, were initiated by Hui o Laka in 1990, all to honor Joseph M. Souza, Jr (d. 1990), one of the founders of Hui o Laka and chief architect of the Hawaiʻi State Parks System. This clip is one of two and shows work accomplished between 2010-2011.
