Mission: Local. Sustainable. Human Rights.
5 Rights promotes a local and sustainable culture of human rights through education, service and action.
Name: Five. Human. Rights.
We are named for the 5 indivisible categories of human rights in the United Nations International Bill of Human Rights: Economic, Social, Cultural, Civil and Political.
Vision: "...to an era of (all 5) human rights."
5 Rights responds to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 1967 call, "to move from an era of civil (and political) rights, to an era of (all 5) human rights," by helping to build the United States into a civil and political society with economic, social and cultural rights; where all humans recognize and work to implement a right to water, food, healthcare, housing, education, employment and social security.
Method: Education. Service. Action.
5 Rights conducts education, service and action projects to achieve our mission.
Education: We present 5 Rights + You, an introduction to the United Nations International Bill of Human Rights.
Service: We help our hungry, sick, homeless, undereducated, unemployed neighbors, and enable volunteers to grasp the local need for economic, social and cultural rights implementation.
Action: We ask volunteers to share 5 Rights + You, to support local human rights organizations, to buy from local and sustainable businesses, and to educate local representatives about their ability to recognize and implement the United Nations International Bill of Human Rights in their jurisdiction.
