The Holland community has a unique opportunity to support a better future for at-risk youth. Many of us understand the impact our giving can have on those in need. See the video link for reasons to support the new Holland Youth Connections Program:

The Holland Youth Connections Program started in the spring of 2013. The idea was to give at-risk teenagers public service jobs with a goal of encouraging civic pride. Twelve students, ages 14-17, had summer jobs for the City and the Schools. Escape Ministries, a faith non-profit organization, helped with the recruitment, transportation and coordination. The youth painted the railings of the Kollen Park Boardwalk, built fences, cleaned up the Skate Park, cut brush and generally made Holland a better place.

It is our goal that the program grows tenfold to 120 youth for this next summer. We are also creating a system that will connect our alumni youth to jobs year-round. We hope that the Holland Youth Connections Program will continue to advance its mission in successive years to improve even more lives. Funding is mostly from our sponsoring employers and enthusiastic donors. One individual gave $35,000 for this summer’s program yet more jobs and funding is needed.

I rarely ask for financial resources of the community. The difference now is the unique opportunity to improve lives of both the youth, as well as, the outcomes of our community’s institutions. See what the youth are capable of at Kollen Park in relation to the newly re-painted boardwalk guardrail. The on-line video further documents the positive momentum created in each participant’s life.

Thank you for considering helping the community through your support to the Holland Youth Connections Program by providing them either: 1) work to do this summer via a mentorship; and/or 2) a financial sponsorship. Your support will generate a proven improvement in Holland’s quality of life, as well as minimizing graffiti, crime, vandalism and other social problems created by gangs. Chief Messer reported the lowest incidence of crime in over 20 years last summer, partly due to programs like Holland Youth Connections.

Please call Sinka in my office at 616.355.1310 in order to set a mutually convenient time and date. Thank you for your consideration and for your generosity.
