Award-winning writer director of films, short films, and commercials.

Graduating with a first from the Masters in Film at DIT, Ian Power's debut short 'Buskers' collected awards at the Galway Film Fleadh, the Cork Film Festival, and the Foyle Film Festival before a successful run on the international festival circuit which culminated in a TCM Classic Shorts Nomination.

Since then he's made a number of other award-winning short films which include the Warner Bros. distributed 'The Wonderful Story of Kelvin Kind', winner of Best Short Drama at the Celtic Film and TV Festival, and 'Dental Breakdown' a comedy musical which won a Remi Award at the Houston Film Festival, the Award of Excellence at the LA Film Awards, and Best Short Comedy at the Fastnet Film Festival.

His first feature length film is 'The Runway', starring Oscar nominee Demián Bichir ('A Better Life'), Kerry Condon ('The Last Station'), and James Cosmo ('Braveheart'). 'The Runway' is inspired by the true story of a South American pilot who crashed his plane in Co. Cork in 1983. Against all odds, the locals came together to build a runway to get him home.

'The Runway' premiered at The Galway Film Fleadh in 2010 where it picked up the award for Best Irish Feature. It had its European Premiere at the Rome Film Festival, and its US Premiere at the Palm Springs Film Festival where it was selected Best of Fest. Since then it has won seven awards from International Film Festivals and has secured theatrical distribution in the USA, as well as Spain, France, Middle East, Mexico, and China, among others.

'The Runway' was selected for the Director's Guild of America's Finders Series in conjunction with the SDGI and enjoyed a successful screening at their headquarters in Los Angeles.

Ian has been directing commercials since 2001 when he was featured in Shots 'Newcomers' section and has also won awards for his work in this field. Previous clients include BT, The National Lottery, RTE, Axa, Invest NI, and Three Mobile.

He is a graduate of EAVE and the Moonstone Filmmakers Lab. He is also the founder of Poderosa Pictures and a member of the Screen Director's Guild of Ireland.
